I'll Be Back- In A Proposed New Terminator Film?

Is this rumor too good to be true? According to Deadline, a pitch was made this past Tuesday to all the majors for a new Terminator film that would feature Arnold Schwarzenegger in the role that made him famous.  Apparently there is no script, and, Justin Lin, director of Fast Five would supposedly helm.

The Deadline article goes on to say that after the less-than great performance of the latest film, Terminator Salvation, and a bankruptcy, the production company was finally able to auction off the Terminator rights to a "hedge fund", and they have been trying to land a new deal ever since.

Schwarzenegger, who is through with politics, has been eyeing several projects for a potential come-back. This role could do that big time for him. What do you think?  Should the Terminator franchise be brought back?  Would you like to see Arnie in a cameo or even starring role?

Immortals is set to be released in 3-D on November 11, 2011.

RaiderJane's (11) Most Anticipated Summer Blockbusters

As the summer movie season is fast upon us, here are some of RaiderJane's top picks for most anticipated summer movie blockbusters in order of appearance.

One of the most highly anticipated superhero movies of the summer (and there are 4 other comic book superhero based films in all).  Thor, God of Thunder, is slated to be released on May 6th and will kick some serious Asgard ass.
He's back....yes, Captain Jack Sparrow will be back in another Pirates of the Caribbean:On Stranger Tides.  We'll be watching this one mostly for the zombies and Ian McShane who has been brilliantly cast as Blackbeard. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is set for release on May 20th, 2011.

X-Men: First Class is slated to be an origins film, and will take us back to the first ever x-men class at Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters. X-Men: First Class is scheduled to be released June 3rd and has a huge ensemble cast to go with it.
The J.J. Abrams' helmed, Spielberg backed, Super 8 is another hugely anticipated film, just for sheer secrecy factor. Word is mum on exactly what it's about, but you can bet that aliens play a big role.  Think of this one as E.T. meets Alien. Super 8 releases June 10.
There is much talk about Green Lantern (yet another comic based superhero). Does Ryan Reynolds have what it takes to pull off the sheer coolness this role requires?  We think he'll do a pretty darn good job.  Green Lantern releases June 17.
Be Afraid, be very afraid.  Yet another Transformers film- Transformers: Dark of the Moon is slated for a summer release.  Let's just hope this one is much better than the last.  Scheduled for release on July 1.

This July, it all ends for our favorite wizard, Harry Potter. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II will take Harry down a dark path that every hero must take. He will finally face Lord Voldemort, but will he come out unscathed?  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II is scheduled for release on July 15.
Yet another superhero tale (and origin story), Captain America: The First Avenger, is based on the Marvel comics superhero and will tell the story of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) who is deemed physically unfit to fight in the war, so he volunteers for secret project 'Rebirth' in which he is transformed into a superhero. Captain America: The First Avenger is scheduled for release on July 22.
Cowboys & Aliens is helmed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man franchise) and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. One word -it's gonna be badass western meets aliens. This movie has awesome written all over it, of course it doesn't hurt that Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford (a yours truly favorite), and Olivia Wilde star. Cowboys & Aliens is scheduled for release on July 29.
Next up is Rise of The Planet of The Apes (yet another origins tale) which will tell the events that lead up to the ape uprising and, ultimately, the world domination of the apes. Rise of the Planet of The Apes is scheduled for an August 5 release.

And lastly, Conan the Barbarian played by Jason Momoa (Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original films)is a remake of the original legend and is scheduled for release on August 19.

So what do YOU think?  Anything that should have been included? Any that should have been left out?

Peter Jackson Has Confirmed Ian Holm Will Play Older Bilbo In 'The Hobbit'

Peter Jackson has confirmed, via his Facebook page that Sir Ian Holm will definitely be back as the older Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. It is not clear exactly in what capacity, though, as the younger Bilbo will be played by Martin Freeman for the majority of the film. Perhaps we will meet the older Bilbo at the beginning, and the story will be told as a flashback?

The Hobbit is currently filming in New Zealand, though they are taking a short Easter break (Jackson has said that the script is being tweaked during their time off).

A Day In The Life Of The Hobbit: Jackson confirms The Hobbit Being Shot At 48 Frames Per Second

According to his Facebook profile, Peter Jackson has a confirmed that The Hobbit is "indeed (being shot) at  the higher frame rate (48 frames per second)." He goes on to say "The key thing to understand is that this process requires both shooting and projecting at 48 fps, rather than the usual 24 fps...So the result looks like the normal speed, but the image has hugely enhanced clarity and smoothness.  Looking at 24 frames every second may seem ok...but there is often quite a lot of blur in each frame, during fast movements, and if the camera is moving around quickly, the image can judder or strobe. Shooting and projecting at 48 fps does a lot to get rid of these issues. It looks much more lifelike, and it is much easier to watch, especially in 3-D."

To read more in the director's own hand, go here.  This is really cool news, though I can't say I understand all the technicalities behind shooting at 48 fps. I do know this movie is going to be frakking awesome! Check back often to the official  Hobbit Blog, or to yours truly, for updated info in a new weekly post entitled - A Day In The Life of The Hobbit.

Kate Beckinsale May Be Set To Star Opposite Colin Farrell In Total Recall Remake

According to DeadlineKate Beckinsale (Underworld franchise) has been offered the role of Douglas Quaid's (Colin Farrell) treacherous wife, Lori in the upcoming Sony Pictures remake of the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed sci-fi cult film, Total Recall.

The original film, based on a short story by Philip K. Dick (We Can Remember It For You Wholesale) has achieved cult status over the years. No word yet on the other female lead, Melina, who Quaid meets on Mars. The names Rosario Dawson and Eva Mendes have been linked.

Kate Beckinsale is currently finishing up another Underworld flick- Underworld 4: New Dawn, so only time will tell whether she agrees to this role. I for one hope this comes to pass. Would love to see Kate in this role. What do you think?

Doctor Who Series 6 Airs Tonight; One Of The Four Leads 'Marked For Death'

We here at RaiderJane have been counting down for months in anticipation to the new series of Doctor Who.  Well the waiting is nearly over. Only 12 hours until the premiere of the series 6 of Doctor Who airs tonight on BBC One and BBC America.

Synopsis, taken from daemonstv.com:
"four envelopes are received, numbered 2, 3, and 4, each containing a date, time and map reference, unsigned, but in TARDIS blue. Who sent them?  And who received the missing number one? This strange summons reunites the Doctor (Matt Smith), Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill) and River Song (Alex Kingston) in the middle of the Utah desert and unveils a terrible secret the Doctor's friends must never reveal to him. 'Space 1969' is their only clue, as their quest lands them-quite literally- in the Oval Office, where they are enlisted by President Nixon himself to assist enigmatic former- FBI agent Canton (Mark Sheppard) in saving a terrified little girl from a mysterious spaceman."

And if that isn't enough, according to bleeding cool, Doctor Who Magazine claims that one of the 11th Doctor's 4 main characters is going to be killed off in the first episode!  That's right, dead.  Click here to see the above magazine cover and 3 alternates.

So who will it be? The Doctor (Matt Smith), Amy (Karen Gillan), Rory (Arthur Darvill) or River Song (Alex Kingston)?  No matter who it is, this'll be a sad episode for fans of the show. Who do you think's days are numbered?

Doctor Who, series 6, airs tonight on BBC One/BBC America, 9 ET/6 Central

On Set Of 'The Hobbit'- Peter Jackson Posts First Production Video

In an official exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, Peter Jackson is using social media to reach out to his fans in a 10 minute "vlog" (shot in HD)- in the first official production video for The Hobbit.  The video has been released via Facebook and on the official Hobbit blog, and according to THR,the vlog "will be the first in a series of vlog [posts] that will keep fans in the know over the next 2-3 years." Check out more at the official Hobbit Blog.

The video includes Jackson leading us through Bag End, as well as several sets from Rivendell, which he says are the same as the first movies.  Jackson said "Walking through Rivendell is strange...because it was 10 or 11 years ago. I'm used to looking at the set on film and now we're walking back into it again, its like you're stepped back into a movie." In several places, it is obvious that Jackson doesn't want to reveal too much, especially when referring to the Mystic Mountains, saying "the iconic scenes where Bilbo...well you'll know if you've read the book."

In the 10 minute video, we also garner images of costumes (fittings) and props, as well as Andy Serkis in his Gollum motion capture suit, and "Dwarf training". There is also brief commentary from a few members of the cast:  Martin Freeman (Bilbo), Ian McKellan (Gandalf), and Andy Serkis (Gollum).

The video also shows Jackson kidding around with Ian Mckellan,  and a traditional Maori welcoming ceremony, which according to THR, is called a "Powhiri", that is supposed to bless the main sound stage at dawn on the first day of shooting".

To read further details about the video, check out the exclusive over at THR, or just check out the video for yourself, below.
