Greenlighted: NBC Picks Up David E. Kelley's 'Wonder Woman'; Steven Spielberg's Musical, 'Smash'

According to Deadline Hollywood, NBC has picked up David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman reboot, which hails from Warner Brothers TV and was originally shelved in early January, due to the studio not being able to "commit to the license fee" and without Greenblatt (NBC entertainment chairman), the WB felt that it wouldn't live up to Kelley's vision.

Now that Greenblatt is on board, NBC has greenlighted Wonder Woman, which is slated as a "reinvention" of the D.C. comic Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince.  She will portray a "vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate exec and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life", according to Deadline.

NBC has also greenlighted, Smash, a one-hour musical within a musical about the "mounting of a Broadway musical" based on an idea by Steven Spielberg who will also be an executive producer.  The pilot will be produced by DreamWorks TV and Universal Media Studios, executive producers Spielberg, along with Theresa Rebeck (script), Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of DreamWorks TV, Hairspray producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and Grammy and Tony-winning songwriters, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman who will compose the original songs.  Talks are under way for Michael Mayer (American Idiot) to direct.

Smash joins a list of shows by DreamWorks TV, including the upcoming Showtime series, The Borgias, and Terra Nova which will air on Fox in the Fall of 2011.

Also picked up by NBC- Mann's World, a one hour drama following the life of Allan Mann, a celebrity stylist in L.A.and I Hate That I Love You which is a comedy involving a straight couple who meets two lesbian friends with romance between the most unlikely of the friends and comedy ensuing.
