Random Light Read: 'Night of the Living Trekkies'

With a tagline like "They thought space was the final frontier- they were wrong" it's hard not to really want to see the ultimate mash-up, zombie apocalypse- Trekkies VS Zombies. You know you want to read this!

Night Of The Living Trekkies was co-written by authors, Kevin David Anderson (who writes in the sub-genre "speculative fiction") and Sam Stall and published by Quirk Fiction.  It is being called an "original work of fiction, horror, and parody, and is not officially sponsored by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the owners of the Star Trek®brand.

If that hasn't captured your interest, Quirk Fiction has also released a trailer based on the book. Watch below.  I don't know about you, but I could definitely see this made into a feature length film.  Bring it Zombies!!!

'Super 8' Super Bowl TV Spot

A TV spot was shown during the Super Bowl for  JJ Abrams' highly secretive film project, Super 8.  For those of you who missed the TV spot, you can view it below.

The project has been kept under wraps since the highly speculative teaser trailer was released back in May. It is not unusual for Abrams to keep his projects secretive while leaking short teasers virally on the web (aka Cloverfield).

The synopsis according to the Paramount Pictures, Steven Spielberg produced Super 8 is
"set in Ohio in 1979 and introduces a troupe of six youngsters who are using a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One fateful night, their project takes them to a lonely stretch of rural railroad tracks and, as the camera rolls, calamity strikes — a truck collides with an oncoming locomotive and a hellacious derailment fills the night with screaming metal and raining fire. Then something emerges from the wreckage, something decidedly inhuman."

Recently, Abrams spoke with the guys over at Hero Complex revealing some pretty interesting details about the plot and, one of its stars, 12 year old Elle Fanning (yep-Dakota's sister).  Check out the full length interview with loads of details over at Hero Complex.

Catwoman and Bane will be villains in 'Dark Knight Rises'

Warner Bros has announced that Catwoman and Bane will be the villains in Christopher Nolan's next installment of The Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises.

We are also excited to learn that Anne Hathaway has been cast in the role of Catwoman (aka Selina Kyle), and that Tom Hardy has been cast as Bane.

There has been much debate over the past year as to what villains will return to challenge The Dark Knight, and it's good to finally have some tangible casting news.

Christian Bale will return to play the lead, opposite Anne Hathaway as Catwoman (Selina Kyle) and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Catwoman has been portrayed a few times as the love interest to Batman (most notably with Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns). Halle Berry also portrays her in a short lived stand alone film.

This will be a first appearance for Bane in a feature length motion picture, though in the canon, he has often proved a pivotal villain.  Bane once even "paralyzed [Wayne]by snapping his spine during one of their battles in the epic comic book storyling 'Batman: Knightfall'.  Bane will prove a formidable opponent to the dark vigilante.

What do you think about the casting choices? How about the choice of villain/love interest?
